This page will serve as a basic beginner's guide for Sons of the Forest. Feel free to edit this guide with any tips, tricks, and suggestions.

Basic gameplay[edit | edit source]

  • Remember to open your emergency pack after the crash!
  • Try to survive attacks from the native cannibals, while exploring the vast island (roughly 4x bigger than The Forest’s map). Explore caves to discover new items to help aid your journey and find new enemies and mysteries about the island.

Loading Screen Tooltips[edit | edit source]

  • Tap {take-item-key} to take items and hold {use-item-key} to use
  • Unequip items by pressing {drop-item-key}
  • Equip your GPS with {gps-tracker-key}
  • Zoom in the GPS map with {tertiery-action-key}
  • Equip a Light source with {lighter-key}
  • Tap {inventory-key} to open your Inventory or hold {inventory-key} to open quick select
  • You can carry up to two Logs at a time
  • Your GPS can show you important locations on the map
  • GPS locators can be placed on surfaces or given to NPCs
  • Craft Bone Armor with Bones, Rope and Tape
  • Maintaining your thirst, hunger and rest will keep your vitality high
  • Your available stamina is only as high as your max vitality
  • Being cold will limit your vitality
  • Performing different actions will increase your strength level
  • Your health will increase slightly when you gain a strength level
  • Some Clothing items are warmer than others
  • Grenades, Sticky Bombs and Molotovs are effective against most enemies
  • Crouch in bushes to hide from enemies
  • Burning bodies will produce Bones
  • Build traps to capture small animals
  • Craft cloth with booze to make a Molotov Cocktail
  • Wearing Flippers when not in water will slow you down
  • Remove a placed structure element by holding {dismantle-object-key}
  • In multiplayer, be nice to each other.
  • Hold {primary-action-key} to do a Heavy Attack
  • Hotkeys can be assigned in Inventory by pressing {hotkey-1-key} to {hotkey-0-key}
  • Hold {BUTTON.DismantleElement} to pickup small structures built from the book
  • Jump twice to dismount from the Knight V

In multiplayer, you can increase the items gained from skinning by having everyone skin it at roughly the same time. This will let everyone get creepy armor from a mutant, get more animal hide/meat, etc.
