Heavies are a type of cannibal in Sons of the Forest.

Appearance[edit | edit source]

Heavies are tall and hefty cannibals, lugging around either a large makeshift club made of a skull and a spine or, more rarely, a running outboard motor. They are heavily disfigured by some form of lesion or malformation leaving their mouth horribly mishappen and depriving them of a nose and their left eye. Although this could have originated from a birth defect or a severe injury, it is most likely that this malformation has occured from exposure to the Cube's effects.

Heavies tend to more often appear as a Golden-Masked Cannibal, indicating their more dominant status in Cannibal families. If their Village contains a throne, Golden-Masked Heavies can be seen sitting or sleeping on them.

Gameplay[edit | edit source]

Heavies begin spawning in Cannibal Villages from the beginning of the game, and after enemy aggression reaches 0.50 (50%). When not lounging or patrolling Villages, Heavies can take part in search parties and, more frequently, in raid parties. Thanks to their stature, they exhibit a more domineering and agressive behavior, not hesitating to charge straight at his target for either a powerful swing of his club, or to kick them. Both attacks will knock the player to the ground, making the Heavy a threat to watch out for in groups as his fellow Cannibals may take advantage to strike the player while they are disabled. However, if the Heavy is hit in the head by any ranged weapon, he will be stunned and fall over on his back. This becomes the ideal time to strike back at the Heavy, possibly killing him before he can even get back on his feet.

In rare instances, Heavies may appear holding a running outboard motor, using the propeller as a makeshift chainsaw. This variant can be extremely dangerous earlier on in game, as they can both inflict immense damage and knock down the player. However, a well placed shot from any ranged weapon into the engine will cause it to explode, killing the Heavy instantly. Conversely, attempting to fight hand to hand a engine Heavy carries the risk of accidentally striking the engine and causing an explosion. It should be noted that Heavies cannot pick up outboard engines that are laying around the world.

Heavies may intimidate the player by either pointing their club at them, or by picking the corpse of a fellow Cannibal while glaring at the player. They are hostile towards both the player and their companions, as well as all mutants. They may attack their own tribe members if hit by them.
