Enemies
Enemies in Sons of the Forest consist of completely new mutants (with the exception of Mutant Baby, Creepy Virginia and Armsy), several variations of cannibals, as well as hostile animals. Creepy Mutants and Cave Cannibals can be skinned for Creepy Armor. While regular surface enemies have a chance to drop a Skin Pouch that consists of crafting items or consumables.
Below is a list of all enemies featured in Sons of the Forest:
Cannibals[edit | edit source]
Cannibals in Sons of the Forest are organized in primitive societies known as "families", residing in small villages scattered across the island. They wear primitive clothing made from animal leather and scavenged contemporary clothing, adapting to colder seasons with makeshift coats.
Behavior:
- Patrols and Raids:
- Wandering around the island, often following fixed paths, and can raid player structures, attacking both the player and their base.
- Adaptability:
- They use intimidation tactics and coordinate attacks, requiring players to constantly adapt for survival.
Occasionally, Cannibal patrols may appear around the Island. Certain locations seem to be more prone to be patrolled, suggesting fixed patrolling paths or spawn points. Additionally, building structures may cause a raiding party to appear nearby, attacking both the player and their base.
Mutants[edit | edit source]
Mutants, or "Creepies," are among the most dangerous enemies on the island in Sons of the Forest. Initially found in caves and bunkers, they start appearing on the surface as the game progresses, especially near cave entrances and points of interest and even more during winter.
Origin and Behavior:
- Most mutants were once human beings transformed by the mysterious Cube phenomena.
- They have lost their sight and compensate with heightened hearing and smell.
- Mutants are aggressively hostile towards humans and attracted to player-built structures, frequently attacking bases.
- They are agile, have high stamina, and can deal significant damage, often appearing in groups.
Most are rather agile with high stamina, and their attacks deal high damage. They are rarely found solitarily and can quickly overwhelm an opponent that is underprepared or overexerts them. All of them are highly susceptible to explosives.
Demons[edit | edit source]
Demons are one of the most formidable enemies players will face in Sons of the Forest. These grotesque beings are primarily found deep within the island's magma-filled caves, making them particularly dangerous due to their environment and aggressive nature. They are slender, humanoid figures with abnormal head shapes and disproportionate limbs. Their ribs and backbone are visible through their thin skin, adding to their eerie appearance.
Behavior and Environment:
- Demons are highly hostile towards players and attack using their claws and back legs.
- They often use a combination of close-range and mid-range attacks, making them versatile combatants.
- Demons are particularly dangerous when encountered in groups, as their coordinated attacks can easily overwhelm an unprepared player.
- They reside in caves filled with lava and are resistant to the intense heat.
- However, they can also appear on the surface as the game progresses.
Demons represent one of the greatest challenges in "Sons of the Forest," requiring players to be constantly vigilant and prepared for their relentless attacks
Hostile Animals[edit | edit source]
In Sons of the Forest, hostile animals add an extra layer of danger and challenge for players. These creatures can be found both in the water and on land, each with unique behaviors and threats.
Sharks:
Sharks are one of the primary hostile animals encountered in the game. They bear a resemblance to great white sharks but have exaggerated features such as longer fins and numerous scars. Sharks typically inhabit ocean areas but can also appear in caves, posing a significant threat to players exploring underwater regions.
Killer Whales:
Killer whales, also known as orcas, are another formidable aquatic enemy. They are highly aggressive and can be encountered in ocean areas. Their presence increases the danger of exploring the seas around the island.
