Kelvin is a prominent companion in Sons of the Forest. He is a highly trained soldier, identified by his code name "Kelvin" on his vest. He accompanied the Jack Holt on a mission to locate a missing billionaire family. However, a helicopter crash left Kelvin with severe brain injuries, resulting in deafness and muteness. Consequently, he relies on written communication via the player's notepad.
Despite his disabilities, Kelvin is invaluable to the player. He can gather resources such as logs, sticks, rocks, stones, and assist in constructing camps. He also builds shelters, fires, and completes structures from player blueprints. Additionally, Kelvin maintains the base by sharpening walls and repairing structures.
Kelvin can fetch food like Fish and Berries, and alert the player to nearby Enemies by pointing them out. He takes care of his own basic needs like eating and drinking, and does not require direct feeding or hydration from the player.
Kelvin wears a tactical jacket and a vest with his name and a GPS tracker displaying a blue "K" on the interface. Players can change Kelvin's outfit using the "Take Item" command, but this is purely cosmetic and does not affect his performance. Initially, Kelvin is seen wearing a Tactical Jacket. However, as players explore the map and find new clothing items, they can outfit him with various attires once he has been befriended. The clothing options for Kelvin include:
Kelvin has lost his ability to hear and speak due to his injuries from the helicopter crash, so commands are issued through a notepad. He can gather specific materials and perform tasks like building shelters, fires, and clearing areas. Kelvin can spot enemies and alert the player by pointing, but he does not engage in combat and will retreat during fights. He can be revived by the player if incapacitated and will naturally recover after some time. Kelvin drinks from water sources and feeds on wild berries or player-provided food.
Players communicate with Kelvin via a notepad to issue commands, which can be general or specific. Kelvin will nod and perform the tasks. Known commands include:
Kelvin was a Puffcorp mercenary and part of the team sent to find the Puffton family. He survived a helicopter crash with Jack Holt but suffered severe brain injuries, leaving him deaf and mute. Despite these challenges, Kelvin remains a dependable partner, capable of following commands to gather resources and build structures.
If Kelvin survives his stay on the Island, he will join Jack Holt, Tim LeBlanc and possibly Virginia inside the Cube, sheltered from its mutagenic effects.
