Virginia Puffton is a non-playable character in Sons of the Forest. Alongside Kelvin, she is one of two known player companions. However, unlike Kelvin, she is initially wary of the player and must slowly be befriended to get to a similar relationship.

Her name is shared with the multiple legged mutant of the first game, and shares the trait of multiple limbs, but is still quite different as well as having her humanity intact.

History[edit | edit source]

Virginia Puffton was the daughter of Barbara and Edward Puffton. The details of her relationship with her parents remain speculative at best, although her father marked her as the sole heiress of his immense fortune in his testament, hinting at a favor treatment over his wife or other possible family members.

When Holospring was opened for its first inhabitants, Virginia would move to the Island along with her father and mother. Like everyone else that was present on the Island when the Cube first activated, Virginia would suffer from physical mutations. However, unlike others, Virginia's mutations were significantly more benign; she suffered comparatively minor physical alterations and lost her ability to speak, but she most remarquably preserved her humanity and conscience. This could possibly be from the fact she did not attend the reception at the banquet hall, instead prefering to swim in the pool of the Entertainment Bunker when the Cube activated.

After the disaster, Virginia fled the overrun Holospring into the forest, where she chose to remain hidden and alone as the horrors unleashed by the Cube unfolded around her for the next several months. Eventually however, she crossed paths with two survivors from a recent helicopter crash onto the Island, Jack Holt and Kelvin. Initially wary of them, Virginia slowly got accustomed to what was presumably the first outside contact she had since the banquet hall disaster, until ultimately finding solace and comfort in the presence of Jack Holt, frequently bringing him gifts such as plants or animal carcasses to be skinned as a token of gratefulness and affection. Although she exhibits a generally wary and delicate demeanor, once she is given a weapon however, Virginia proves to be an effective and hard-boiled combat partner, shooting incoming threats with no hesitation and impressive accuracy.

If Virginia survived her stay on the Island, she manages to join the player, Timmy Leblanc and possibly Kelvin inside the Cube, sheltering her from its mutagen effects. Should the player choose to leave the Island, she will be rescued as well and be taken to a hospital to surgically remove her extra limbs. Amongst the horrors and ruthlessness of the mutant-ridden Island however, a flame of love kindled between Jack and Virginia from their shared strive for survival, which would eventually lead to a formal engagement between the two after their rescue. In the prologue taking place five months later, Jack is seen driving along with Virginia, who is now carrying the new couple's first child.

Appearance[edit | edit source]

Virginia as seen in the announcement trailer

Virginia's most prominent characteristic is that she has three arms and legs. She has medium-long blond hair. She is firstly seen wearing a white leotard, however, as you find new clothes throughout the map, you can equip these on her once you have befriended her. Her clothing options consist of the White Leotard, the Camo outfit, the Dress, the leather suit, and a tracksuit outfit.

Behavior[edit | edit source]

Virginia's base behavior is like an independent cat according to the developers - elusive and skittish. However, she can be befriended and become more attached to you if you are kind to her. She can also be scared off, ignored, or killed to remove her entirely from the game.

Virginia will firstly be frightened when combat takes place nearby, however sooner or later she will adapt to it because of frequent fighting throughout the game. She will be able to learn how to use weapons. Due to possessing 3 arms, she essentially has a combat advantage as she can use two ranged weapons at the same time, f.e. a shotgun and a pistol.

Virginia will bring "gifts" to the player when befriended. She brings berries, aloe vera, rocks, sticks, squirrels, and rabbits. She will always bring a singular piece of said gifts at a time. Plants and berries brought by her will also provide the player with its seeds. She will present the gift to the player and place it on the ground while making a soft moan.

Virginia will react to temperature. She appears to like basking in the sun and dislikes colder regions of the island.

Virginia will sometimes come to player and signal to follow her, she will then lead you to a place of interest such as a camp or a place with loot.

Virginia will behave coyly towards the player, if the player chooses to interact with her instead of scaring her off.

If Kelvin is killed while Virginia is befriended, she will approach his corpse and begin crying. She will then return back to normal.
