Logs are a main building resource in Sons of The Forest, essential to the construction of custom buildings and prefab buildings. They can be obtained by cutting down trees with an axe or a chainsaw, and will drop a varying amount of logs depending on the size of the tree.
Logs can be cut into smaller pieces that can serve different purposes in building. While holding any kind of axe, hovering over various parts of a log will highlight several ways to cut it to produce different sizes and shapes. When putting full logs into a construction that requires different sizes of logs, the player character will automatically cut the appropriate size of log and place it into the construction.
When thrown, logs can inflict damage on fauna, flora, enemies, and even the player character.
