Rabbits are a small animals inhabiting most of the Island.

Gameplay[edit | edit source]

Rabbits may appear with either brown, black or white fur; black and brown-fured rabbits appear during the warmer months throughout the woods while white-fured rabbits appear during winter or in the higher parts of the map, covered in eternal snow. However, skinning a rabbit will always give a brown Head Trophy regardless of the color. Rabbits are naturally fearful creatures, running away at any sign of a possible danger. Although fast, they are generally easy to catch up and kill, providing a small albeit easy source of meat. Additionally, they can be caught into a Small Animal Trap, provided it is placed within their spawning areas.

Rabbits caught under a Small Animal Trap can be grabbed out from the trap instead of being instantly killed. From there, the player has the choice either to kill the rabbit by snapping its neck, dropping the body onto the ground to be skinned, release it, or place it into a Rabbit Cage.

Caged Rabbits must be fed by placing leaves in the small bowl. Each rabbit will consume 1 leaf per day. If there are no leaves left by the "feeding" time, one rabbit will disappear instead. If there are at least 2 rabbits in one cage, there is a chance for them to breed every time the player goes to sleep, provided the cage is not already full. Rabbit breeding can provide the player with a readily available source of meat, although it is realistically possible that the player may go through several nights without a single new offspring, making it a rather unreliable source of food.
