Weapons

Weapons in Sons of the Forest vary much more compared to its Prequel, The Forest, From a more diverse selection of ranged combat, to a selection of melee weapons to aid fending off enemies. These weapons play a vital role in survival, they are the only way that the player is able to fend off or otherwise protect themselves from Enemies, it's up to the Player to decide if they wish to expend munitions or medical equipment if they can't properly fend off their enemies with melee alone.

Melee Weapons

Close Quarters Combat weapons, allowing you to fend off just about every enemy. These types of weapons also allow for blocking, with various degrees of effectiveness. Blocking and Swinging uses up stamina, so combat should be a balance of stamina usage. Ensure you have enough stamina to go into combat.

Your effectiveness with Melee Weapons can be enhanced with your growing Strength, and combat or other forms of swinging melee weapons will increase Strength. Strength increases your overall health, damage with melee weapons, and how fast you can swing your melee weapons.

Tapping the block button with a valid weapon will cause the character to somewhat "shove" with their weapon. It's not a shove, but in fact a "parry", which allows you to stun enemies if you perform this exactly as you take damage. It uses up no stamina if you hit it correctly, and prevents you from taking damage. Learning how to parry most enemies will allow for the most effective combat with most regular enemies. This is emphasized in the "Hard Survival" difficulty.

Ranged Weapons

Weapons you can use to inflict damage towards enemies without needing to be close to them. This usually has its trade offs, such as doing less damage than your average close quarters melee weapon, or requiring Ammunition to fire at enemies. Bows allow you to fire off explosive, stunning or flaming projectiles, however this can be more costly than getting the arrows alone. You are also restricted on how many arrows you can bring around with you, unlike Firearms, in which you can have thousands of.

Attachments

Attachments are modifications you can mount onto your firearms, namely the Pistol, Shotgun and Crossbow. Attachments do not require batteries to run, and can affect your weapons in different ways.

Explosives

Explosives are primarily throwables that upon impact will soon after explode, causing large amounts of damage. They can be either found or may feature difficult crafting methods, these items can cause large amounts of damage, from ballistic explosives knocking down trees and causing major damage to crowds of enemies or larger enemies as a whole, to fire based explosives which can scare and damage enemies about as much.
