Regular Cannibals

From Sons of the Forest Wiki
Jump to navigation Jump to search

The regular cannibals are the most frequently encountered type on the island. They are frequently encountered in groups or while patrolling in the vicinity of their village.

Appearance[edit | edit source]

Regular cannibals exhibit a remarkable diversity of appearances compared to other cannibal types in the game, with over eight variants, each boasting unique features and attire. Male cannibals wield a weapon made from bones, with two variants observed, while female cannibals do not carry any weapons. Adorned in bone armor or tattered leather clothing, regular cannibals often bear tribal markings on their bodies, along with skull-like facial paintings. Each cannibal's clothing varies depending on their environment, whether it's the forest, winter, or the beach. For a detailed breakdown of the clothing items that may appear on each variant, refer to the following:

Gameplay[edit | edit source]

Regular Cannibals are the prevalent type of cannibal found on the island and are known for their territorial nature. They possess a complex social structure, with certain individuals displaying dominance over others. Communication among them is achieved through a series of vocalizations and grunts, which vary depending on the situation. These cannibals are typically seen in groups of two to six, patrolling villages and the rest of the island, though sometimes as many as ten may band together. They exhibit aggressive behavior towards the player, though holding them at gunpoint or killing one of their own can intimidate them.

At the outset, regular cannibals are neutral towards the player, but continuous attacks by the player can make them permanently hostile (though, aggression levels automatically increase with each day no matter what actions the player has taken, leading to inevitable conflict). Their behavior towards the player can vary based on their village or territory, with some being more cautious or using different tactics to attack. In addition, regular cannibals have been observed demolishing structures, breaking down doors, or looting resources from the player.

Upon first encounter, regular cannibals are typically curious about the player and may circle, taunt, or observe them to gauge their reaction. If the player gets too close, they may attack as a self-defense mechanism and consider it an act of aggression. later in game, the Cannibal will start to be more cautious about the player and start to attack is base depending on the action the player has done during playing. As the game progresses, regular cannibals may become increasingly cautious of the player's presence and may start to actively attack the player's base depending on the player's actions. These actions could include attacking cannibal villages or killing members of their tribe.

Internally, each physical variant of the Regular Cannibal has a name such as "Andy" or "Carl".

Special variants[edit | edit source]

Regular Cannibals have a chance to spawn as one of the 7 special variants. These variants possess unique characteristics, move sets and attacks, which may force the player to adjust their strategy.

Painted Cannibals[edit | edit source]

PaintedCannibals.png

Painted Cannibals are Cannibals that appear exclusively at night. They are recognizable by their fluorescent body paint making them more visible in the dark. This is a purely cosmetic variant that does not possess any additional move sets or unique attacks. Their bodypaint is only visible in the dark, they will look like regular cannibals under daylight.

Frank[edit | edit source]

Frank.png

The Frank Cannibal variant is recognizable by its dark, tanned skin and the torch it carries. Upon feeling threatened, Frank will douse himself with two bottles of Vodka before lighting himself ablaze. It will then attempt to directly attack the player by hand. Touching or getting hit by Frank while he is burning will cause the player to light ablaze. Although generally easy to deal with while on its own, the passive burning damage may hamper the player's longevity in a fight against a group of Cannibals, as Frank rarely appears alone.

Eddy[edit | edit source]

Eddy.png

The Eddy variant carries three Crafted Spears on his back. When his target is at a distance, he will grab one of his spears and throw it at them. Eddy will attempt to predict the target's movement when throwing spears, requiring some agility to avoid getting hit. If Eddy is forced into close-quarter combat or runs out of spears, he will behave just like a normal cannibal. Although the damage inflicted by thrown spears remains fairly manageable, it is easy to get hit while distracted by other enemies.

Greg[edit | edit source]

Greg.png

The Greg variant carries an effigy on his back. Upon feeling threatened, he will plant his effigy on the ground, aggravating other cannibals and causing them to become more aggressive. Greg does not otherwise possess any peculiar moves or attacks, although destroying his effigy will provide the player with bones and possibly skulls.

Henry[edit | edit source]

Henry.png

Henry is a very aggressive variant that is recognizable by the skin mask it wears (not to confuse with the headpiece of the Creepy Armor). Henry is arguably the most dangerous variant to combat hand to hand, as he is significantly more agile and relentless than other cannibals, being capable of keeping constant pressure on the player as well as dodging and attacking simultaneously. He is most dangerous when he appears in a Cannibals group or when wearing higher tier Armor, making him more difficult to dismember. Ranged weapons will make fighting Henry significantly easier.

Igor[edit | edit source]

Igor.png

Igor is a more neurotic variant that wears a sack mask and antlers strapped to his head. Upon seeing a target, Henry will stomp on the ground before charging head first at them. Getting hit by a charge attack will knock the player off their feet on top of inflicting a good deal of damage. This can be peculiarly damning if there are other Cannibals who can finish off the player while they are still on the ground.

Elise[edit | edit source]

Elise.png

Elise is the only female variant, recognizable by her sequin dress and her makeshift knuckle dusters made of sharpened bones. Elise is significantly more aggressive than other female cannibals, behaving similarly to her male counterparts. When attacking, she may use acrobatic move sets such as cart wheels to inflict a barrage of attacks to the player using her knuckle dusters. She will also use her environment more extensively, being more prone to climb on trees or rocks during combat.
