Puffies or blind mutants are creepy mutants in Sons of the Forest. They are the most common enemy found inside caves, serving as a replacement for the gray cave cannibals from The Forest. These mutants cannot see the player or other entities due to their lack of eyes, but instead they use hearing and sense of smell to find its prey.

Appearance[edit | edit source]

Puffies are eye-less creatures that never wear any clothing nor wield any weapons. They have an unnatural grey skin color, and their faces appear to be overlapped with skin, similarly to mutant babies. There are both male and female variants; the latter features defined breasts and long hair.

Gameplay[edit | edit source]

In addition to caves, Puffies can also spawn on the surface when caves have been opened. Over time, they will join in on Creepy takeovers on cannibal villages. They are neutral towards Fingers, Twins, and babies, but are hostile towards the player, regular cannibals, and the caterpillar.

Prior to Patch 03, Puffies could only spawn near and execute targeted attacks on the player’s base at night, and did not spawn naturally in random locations around the island. With the third patch, Puffy raids are more common; groups of up to six or more Puffies can be encountered.

Most of the time, puffies are seen clumsily crawling around in the caves and making eerie noises. They are notably weaker and more sluggish compared to other cannibals. They rarely stand up, unless they notice an opponent.

They cannot see the player or other entities due to their lack of eyes, but instead they use hearing and possibly their sense of smell to find its prey. They can run extremely fast when aggravated, but tend to slow down into a zombie-like walk when near their adversary.

Upon killing a puffy, their bodies can be harvested in order to obtain one piece of creepy armour, indicating that they are considered creepy mutants rather than regular mutants or cannibals.

Strengths and Weaknesses[edit | edit source]

Strengths[edit | edit source]

  • Puffies are one of the fastest enemies in the game when they run, making them difficult to hit with a ranged weapon while on the move. Within caves, their movement is more restricted, but their speed and strength in numbers makes them difficult to fight in the larger spaces. On the surface, it can be difficult to outrun them if spotted at a short distance, and even harder to hit with a ranged weapon.
  • They often spawn in large groups, making it difficult to fight them one-on-one.

Weaknesses[edit | edit source]

  • Puffies are very easy to be snuck up on or snuck past.
  • They are highly vulnerable to the Stun Gun, immobilizing them for a short period and making them highly vulnerable to melee attacks while stunned.
  • Bombs can kill groups of puffies easily, especially when in their slower walking animation.

Variants[edit | edit source]

There are 3 variants of Puffies that can appear, with different move sets, attacks and resistance

Blue Puffy[edit | edit source]

Main article: Blue Puffy

Blue Puffies are a stronger, tougher variant that is recognizable by the verdigris stains on its skin and, in the dark, by the faint blue glow emitting from under their skin, hence their name.

Spotted Puffy[edit | edit source]

Main article: Spotted Puffy

Much like Blue Puffies, Spotted Puffies are a stronger and tougher variant, recognizable by its spotted skin.
