Mutants or Creepies are enemies in Sons of the Forest, with the exception of Virginia. These are the most dangerous inhabitants of the Island that player can encounter.

Gameplay[edit | edit source]

Initially, creepy mutants are only encountered in the caves and bunkers. As the days progress however (specific day is unknown), many of the variants start to appear on the surface, often spawning near cave entrances and certain points of interest. Sometimes, Blind Mutants and Fingers can also be seen tied up in certain cannibal camps. With Patch 03, some of the creepy mutants (such as the Puffies, Fingers, and Twins) may spawn near the player’s base and target structures. Mutants have a high surface spawn rate near cave entrances, especially during winter.

Most are rather agile with high stamina, and their attacks deal high damage. They are rarely found solitarily and can quickly overwhelm an opponent that is underprepared or overexerts them. All of them are highly susceptible to explosives.

Origin[edit | edit source]

Most mutants once used to be regular human beings who were turned into abominations by the Mysterious Cube phenomena. Proximity to the cube seems to play a part in the mutations but it is uncertain to what degree.

Behavior & Physiology[edit | edit source]

All mutants are aggressively hostile towards humans, be they cannibals or the players. They are not hostile towards other mutants even if they are of a different variety, with the except of Virginia and the Caterpillar. They are attracted to player built structures similarly to the cannibals. They are able to detect when a cannibal or the player is wearing Creepy Armor, likely due to a heightened sense of smell.

Most of them have lost their sight and have developed heightened hearing and sense of smell to compensate. Some may have even developed electroreception[1] but not echolocation[2] or baroreception[3], as they are unable to detect a stealthily moving player if they are not too close.
